The attached Group Environmental Policy forms the cornerstone of our Environmental System. An Environment Management System was introduced in 2005 and has been internally audited on an annual basis.
Specific areas covered are as follows:
Water
Water consumption and discharge is regularly monitored. The site has its own effluent treatment plant operating to consent limits set by our sewage undertaker and now included within the Permit. Results from our discharge points are reported to the Environment Agency as a requirement of the Permit. Emissions to water are also included in an annual Pollution Inventory report submitted to the Environment Agency on an annual basis.
Energy Efficiency
An energy efficiency plan is sent to the Environment Agency annually as a requirement of the Permit. This includes proposals for energy and CO2 reductions for the forthcoming year. The company has also entered into a Climate Change Levy Agreement which requires specific energy targets to be met.
Air
The two stacks of the foundry extraction system are monitored twice yearly. Various parameters are measured, including particulates and metals, and reported against consent limits that are included within the Permit. Results from monitoring are reported to the Environment Agency as a requirement of the Permit. The company also monitors fugitive emissions at the site boundary and within the foundry roof space. Emissions to air are also included in an annual Pollution Inventory report submitted to the Environment Agency.
Waste
Waste management is carried out in accordance with procedures written to comply with the requirement of the Permit. Waste disposal is carried out by authorized waste carriers using authorized facilities and the necessary paperwork. Waste transactions are included in an annual Pollution Inventory report submitted to the Environment Agency on an annual basis. A packaging waste return is provided to a recognized compliance scheme, on an annual basis, of which the company is a non-obligated member.
Noise
An environmental noise survey was conducted as part of the Permit application. Subsequently, there are no conditions specific to noise within the Permit.
